Department of Ophthalmology
The Department of Ophthalmology has more than 100 employees (including 22 physicians of whom six are in training positions) and is one of the five largest ophthalmology departments in Sweden. The department is divided into a surgical and a medical division. In 2009 the department managed 21,000 out-patient visits, 1,700 of which were patients from outside our normal catchment area.
We carry out a great deal of surgical activity at different levels of complexity, including procedures for cataracts and glaucoma, and highly specialized retinal, corneal, and vitreous body surgery. In 2009, we performed 2,900 surgical procedures, 700 of which were on patients from outside our catchment area including private patients and patients from other countries.
We have our own cornea bank.
We aim to be in the forefront clinically, and to give our patients the highest level of care as well as to remain an active teaching facility.
Our vision: “I want to work here, and this is where I want to be a patient.”
