Department of Plastic Surgery

One of seven plastic surgery departments in Sweden

The plastic surgery department in Örebro was founded in 1964.

The department is responsible for reconstruction of defects and deformities of soft tissues, skeletal tissues, and connective tissues caused by congenital malformations, trauma, various diseases (especially tumors), prior surgical interventions, poor circulation, chronic infections, and complicated wounds.

A few examples of diseases that are treated at the Department of Plastic Surgery

  • Deformations of the face
  • Facial paralysis
  • Skin tumors
  • Burns
  • Scars

Large wounds that heal slowly, such as those on the leg or foot after trauma or on the face and in the oral cavity after resection of tumors, are repaired using grafts.

We also repair defects after trauma or tumor surgery, such as deformities of the nose or a missing breast after cancer surgery.

Surgical methods

We use a broad spectrum of traditional surgical procedures as well as modern and advanced microsurgical techniques for especially complicated reconstructions.

Collaboration

We collaborate closely with the Departments of Otolaryngology, Maxillofacial Surgery, and Oncology in particular. Together, these departments constitute the Head and Neck Oncology Center.

Referrals and waiting time

Our department requires a referral from a physician. The waiting time for an initial appointment is 4 to 5 weeks.
