Department of Maxillofacial Surgery
The Department of Maxillofacial Surgery has a unit for maxillofacial surgery and a unit for hospital dentistry and oral medicine. The department has 29 employees, including five specialists in maxillofacial surgery, two hospital dentists, and three dentists training in maxillofacial surgery.
The unit for maxillofacial surgery is involved in all areas within the field of oral surgery, and treats patients from our own catchment area as well as patients from other locations are treated. We have an established collaboration with specialized dental departments as well as with many of the hospital’s other departments. The Department of Maxillofacial Surgery is part of the Head and Neck Oncology Center, and is involved in treatments for head and neck cancer, including reconstruction of jaws, facial bones, and soft tissues. The department has 24/7 on-call coverage.
Wide-ranging educational activities are carried out, including training of specialists in maxillofacial surgery, ancillary training for specialists in other related odontological and medical specialties, and courses and seminars for medical students and individuals in general dentistry. Research is carried out in collaboration with Örebro University, among others.

The department collaborates with specialist units from the national dental service clinics and most of the hospital’s departments, especially the Departments of Otolaryngology, Plastic Surgery, and Oncology.
The Department of Maxillofacial Surgery is part of the Head and Neck Oncology Center, which coordinates the care of patients with head and neck tumors including reconstructions after surgery.
Extensive facial trauma is managed in collaboration with the Departments of Otolaryngology and Plastic Surgery.
